Gas-free Inspection

FOR PRESSURE VESSELS

Working within the oil, gas and chemicals sector, one is often exposed to highly dangerous working environments. For those who have to conduct regular maintenance work or construction within shore tanks, lines, barges or vessels, safety takes on an even higher standard.

Before performing hot or cold work, or allowing fire exposure, a gas free inspection certificate must be obtained to ensure that the working environment is safe and secure.

Maintenance and repair work can fall into several categories:

  • Cold Work
  • Hot Work
  • Fire Exposure

1) COLD WORK

Includes any repairs or alterations that do not involve heat, fire or spark producing operations;

2) HOT WORK

Includes any repairs or alterations that involve drilling, riveting, welding, burning or other heat, fire or spark producing operations

3) FIRE EXPOSURE

Includes fire, sparks, open light or using surfaces with a temperature that is equal to or higher than the minimum ignition temperature of the possible remaining liquids or gases in the cargo tank or enclosed environment.

OUR SOLUTIONS

Before a fire or explosion can occur, three conditions must be met simultaneously. A fuel (i.e. combustible gas) and oxygen (air) must exist in certain proportions, along with an ignition source, such as a spark or flame. The ratio of fuel and oxygen that is required varies with each combustible gas or vapor.

The minimum concentration of a combustible gas or Vapor is necessary to support its combustion in air is defined as the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) for that gas. Below this level, the mixture is unlikely to burn.

BRIMBERG INSPECTION LIMITED being the experts in oil and gas logistics, understands the risks involved in operating and performing maintenance in hazardous environments where combustible materials may be present.

We are constantly looking beyond customers’ and society’s expectations in order to deliver market leading services wherever they are needed. We provide innovative services and solutions for every part of the oil, gas and chemicals industry.

Our Gas free Inspection certificates indicate:

• The last cargo contained in the area (and sometimes the last three cargoes if available);

• The method used for performing the inspection

• The location of the working area.

After a careful examination of the tested areas and a review of the maintenance work to be performed, our specialists will issue a judgement on the safety of the enclosed space:

• Safe/Not safe for entry or fire

Electrical Inspection

Our expert inspections and thermal imaging services detect potential electrical issues, preventing downtime and ensuring safety.

Overhaul & Calibration of Pressure Relief Valves

A PROPERLY DESIGNED, APPLIED, AND INSTALLED PRESSURE-RELIEVING DEVICE THAT IS MAINTAINED IN GOOD OPERATING CONDITION IS ESSENTIAL TO THE SAFETY OF PERSONNEL AND THE PROTECTION OF EQUIPMENT DURING ABNORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES.

NEED FOR INSPECTION

Pressure relieving devices should be treated as delicate instruments because their accurate functioning is critical to safe plant operation.

Failure of pressure-relieving devices to function properly when needed could result in the overpressure of the vessels, exchangers, boilers, or other equipment they were installed to protect.

OUR SOLUTIONS

BRIMBERG INSPECTION LIMITED carries out inspections, testing, maintenance and resetting of pressure relief devices to determine the general physical and operating conditions of the devices,and ensure that their performance meets the requirements for a given installation.

Non-Destructive Testing

FOR CORROSION AND WELD QUALITY ASSESSMENT

Non-Destructive Testing is one of the most effective method of evaluating the condition of an equipment or component without damaging it. The two main features used for the evaluation are corrosion also called metal loss and weld quality or deterioration.

BRIMBERG INSPECTION LIMITED can provide fully trained and experienced NDT inspectors together with calibrated equipment to be able to carry out the following testing methods;

a) ULTRASONIC TESTING (UT)

This method employs high frequency of sound pulses that are emitted by transducer. This sound wave is induced in to the material through a probe which is usually in contact with the material. These sound waves propagate through the material and are returned back to the probe when they reach an interface.

b) MAGNETIC PARTICLE INSPECTION (MPI)

This method involves the component or equipment under test being magnetized. This magnetization process is supplemented by the application of ferromagnetic particles on the already magnetized surface.

c) VISUAL INSPECTION (VI)

This method involves both direct and indirect visual inspection techniques. Direct inspection is where the material is inspected directly by human eye without additional visual aids while indirect inspection may involve the use of magnifying glass, mirror, boresc ope (mini camera) closed circuit TV etc.

d) LIQUID PENETRANT INSPECTION (LPI).

This involves applying a liquid dye to the surface of a material and leaving the dye to “dwell” on the surface of the material on predetermined time. The liquid can be either a color that is easily visible under normal lighting condition or a yellow/green fluorescent color that requires special lighting condition to be seen effectively.

e) MAGNETIC FLUX LEAKAGE (MFL)

This is a method of NDT that is used to detect corrosion and pitting in steel structures, most commonly pipelines and storage tanks. A powerful magnet is used to magnetize the steel at. At areas where there is corrosion and missing metal, the magnate field “leakes” from the steel.

f) RADIOGRAPHY TESTING (RT)

It is an NDT method of inspecting materials for hidden flaws by using the ability of short wave length electromagnetic radiation to penetrate various materials e.g tanks, pipes etc. In this method, a piece of radiographic film is placed on the remote side of the material under inspection and radiation is then transmitted from one side of the material to the remote side where the radiog raphic film is placed.
